Summer vacation ended without collecting specimens of exotic fauna.
On Sunday August 15 , 2010 at 14:15 hours, we received notice of the GPA (Group Relief Soon) Arafo (Municipality of South Tenerife) on a copy of iguana in Güimar (another district in the south of the island).
Arafo The GPA contacted us at 16:00 am and we proceeded to remove the reptile and perform first aid.
Our surprise was great when arriving at the greenhouses (through a maze of back roads) we find that the so-called Green Iguana (Iguana iguana , a species low degree of international protection and a very affordable cost in the pet trade) was actually a horned lizard in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, Cyclura cornuta, species included in Appendix I of the Washington Convention (Annex A in its transposing EU legislation). Exhibit A is the highest category of protection and includes endangered species such as gorillas and pandas.
It was an adult male large, as shown in the images, which had been attacked by a dog, leaving him in very poor condition.
