continue with the capture of exotic species in the Canaries. On Thursday 30 September 09:28 hours we received a 112 call warning of the presence of a snake in the Plaza de San Luis, Taco. The specimen was found by housekeeping staff of La Laguna when hosed the area with a tanker. At 9:44 we had removed the reptile.
is a case that is out of the norm as it is a rare species, found today for the first time in Canary Islands and is also a snake dentition semivenenoso opisthoglyphous (although it is a species considered deadly to humans).
When we arrived at the animal was already inside a plastic bucket and had two incised wounds in the flank recent bruised by poking the viscera. Despite efforts to save his life at our facility at 17:00 hours the animal died.
From analysis of the sample are drawn the following conclusions:
The animal came to the island with timber imported by a company that makes doors, adjacent to the plaza above. Apparently in previous moments to capture the snake was two strokes and cuts.
Using lepidosis (shape, distribution and number of reptilian scales) identified the animal as a young adult specimen of Culebra Herald, Crotaphopeltis hotamboeia Laurenti, 1768. Identification was later confirmed by photographs and literature. Some specimens have a reddish supralabial very striking.

Finally, a real pity for the animal and a serious concern if we think it can be accidentally entering the islands.
